Our Story

Our Farm was built in the '30s with bricks and stones gathered from the area around us. It's located between Pienza and Monticchiello, right in the middle of the Orcia Valley Artistic Natural and Cultural Park, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. The Farm was bought by the Mangiavacchi family in the 1965: we have gradually renovated it bit by bit and we have improved the quality of the food we produce by introducing new crops: cereals, olive oil, saffron, jams, spelt, chickpeas, barley, saffron beer and flour made from ancients grains. Every aspect of our job, from cropping to hosting, is managed directly and only by The Family because we want to spread and share the traditions of our Family.

Products

Spelt and chickpeas

Il farro e i ceci

Both spelt and chickpeas are products that we grow in our land. We have chosen them because they are very important in our daily diet and because they enrich the soil enough to let us cultivate different types of crops.

Olive oil

L'olio

Our extra-virgin olive oil is obtained from small and innovative olive harvest machineries; then the olives are taken to the olive press within 48 hours. The variety of olive trees is very wide: leccini, orioli, frantoiani and some olivastre. The pressing takes place in a continuous cycle olive press at a temperature not exceeding 27ºC.

Jams

Le confetture

The jams are made from the fruit we collect from our farm. After a careful selection, we cook the fruit in the oven until it reaches the required consistency; the fruit cooking temperature is between 120ºC and 130ºC and we add sugar only for a maximum of 10%. Packaging is 100g or 200g jars and flavours include: apricots - quince - figs - pears and saffron - plums - watermelon - pumpkin and orange - onions.

Saffron

Lo zafferano

Saffron is a spice which has had a revival in recent years, especially in recipes. It is harvested in October and dried and stored in threads. Its processing takes a long time, as both the cultivation and the harvest is done exclusively by hand and the separating also takes many hours. Its aroma is very intense; threads can be used in recepits or you can grind them to obtain various types of food dishes, from appetizers to desserts. Packaging is 0.10g. or 0.25g.

Saffron beer

La birra allo zafferano

Saffron beer is the latest product we have introduced. Its taste is very particular, both for the characteristic taste of craft beers and for the intense taste that saffron releases. Try this beer with a typical Tuscan mixed platter to get the maximum taste experience.

Pasta

La pasta

The various pasta shapes we make are obtained by grinding our wheat in a stone mill and transforming it at an authorized pasta factory. The very intense taste and the slightly dark color due to the type of grinding makes this pasta very tasty and full of flavour.

Val d'Orcia

The natural evolution of the valley, together with the cultural identity of the community that has lived there for centuries: the Val d’Orcia Park is a World Heritage site. What makes the Val d’Orcia so unique is the common vision of the realities present – the councils of Castiglione d’Orcia, Montalcino, Pienza, Radicofani and San Quirico d’Orcia.
